There are many things to look forward to at the end of the year, from spending time with loved ones to buying great gifts to the possibility of a new one. If we are honest, holiday travel is the thing we look forward to the most. It doesn’t matter if you are traveling to Paris or to visit family, there is nothing better than the feeling of packing your bag and setting off into the world. Travel, as with all things, has its challenges.

It’s easy to be swept away in the dream of a vacation on the beach, but even veteran travelers know that it is difficult to get there, especially during the holiday season. We’re likely to see increased travel demand this year which will lead to cost inflation, delays and long lines at TSA. It’s going to be stressful. There’s so much to worry about already, you don’t want to worry about what you’ll pack for the upcoming trip.

We asked some designers for their tips on how to pack and survive the holiday season without stress. They are industry veterans who have traveled the globe for both work and pleasure, and are well-known for creating vacation-worthy pieces. They know how to survive long flights comfortably, so take their advice.

Jean founders: Evangeline Titilas, Sami Lorking Tanner

How did you get into the fashion industry. What attracted you to designing?

Evangeline Titilas, 23-year-olds who were traveling across Europe. We were both inspired and had always wanted it to be so we began planning that trip.

What do you think the fashion and travel industries can be connected in some way?

It is clear that there is a marriage between these two. Both evoke freedom, discovery and adventure. Our collections have been influenced by our experiences with different cultures, wildlife, landscapes, and even food over the years.

Is there a place you have been to that has influenced your approach to design, since the fashion industry is worldwide?

Inspiration is something we tend to take with us wherever we go. We have yet to see all of the beauty in the world. It is possible to learn and gain so much information in one place. We look forward to our next adventures.

We love that your pieces are photogenic. Do you have any tips for being photo-ready while on the road?

We love clothes. We believe that dressing well is the best way to look good.

What, as a designer, is it worth taking (and wearing) on a vacation?

A piece that can be worn over and over again, such as a top that we can wear with miniskirts or jeans that can be worn all day.

Do you think there are any staples that you consider essential for every trip? What and why are they essential?

We always have a lot of corset tops. These tops are perfect for layering, they can be worn all day, every day, and can be worn in any weather. Each person usually brings four With Jean corsets. A fun bikini is also a must for warmer climates.

I always take eye patches with me on the beauty side. Nothing is better than applying eye patches after a long flight or an extended day of exploration.

Is there anything you recommend wearing when flying, other than packing for your destination? Is there a travel uniform that you swear by?

A tracksuit is always a good choice, but the more baggier the better. Styled with sneakers and a printed tank.

Are there any packing or travel tips that you can recommend to readers for the holiday season?

Don’t fold your clothes!

Jasmin Larian Shekmat, founder of Cult Gaiaa

How did you get into the fashion industry. What attracted you to designing?

Fashion was in my blood. My mom is a fashion designer and my family started Bratz dolls. My whole life I’ve been creating things. To me creativity and creating are the reasons for my existence.

What do you think the fashion and travel industries can be connected in some way?

Fashion and travel are both escapes for me. It allows you to take chances, be adventurous, and step out of your comfort zone.

Is there a place you have been to that has influenced your approach to design, since the fashion industry is worldwide?

Japan has been a place that inspires me. Their aesthetic and sense of restraint are something I am constantly striving to achieve. Focusing and simplifying is what I believe is the most difficult thing in fashion. I find inspiration everywhere the sun shines, the water shimmers.

We love that your pieces are photogenic. Do you have any tips for being photo-ready while on the road?

Color is what makes you feel and look beautiful.

What, as a designer, is it worth taking (and wearing) on a vacation?

You will find pieces that match with many different styles. When designing, I think about how I can take things from the beach to a night on the town in heels. It’s a pleasure to be able offer versatility.

Do you think there are any staples that are essential for every trip? What and why are they essential?

A beautiful sarong is something I love. It can be worn as a dress, or as a cover-up. I also love our Hera Rhinestone bag that can be used day to night, and our Meta Sandal that goes with everything.

My makeup routine is almost identical every day so I’m not likely to be spotted on a plane without my Tom Ford blush, Make Up For Ever lipstick, and Too Faced concealer.

Is there anything you recommend wearing when flying, other than packing for your destination? Is there a travel uniform that you swear by?

Always something stylish and warm for the flight. This is what I always wear. Evian spray is always a must, as well as a large scarf that can double up as a blanket.

Are there any packing or travel tips that you can recommend to readers for the holiday season?

Before I leave, I make sure to give myself at least a few days notice so I can pack properly. This reduces stress and makes me more excited about the trip. Cult Gaia’s duster bag and packing cubes are great for organizing everything. Planning my look, I love to try on shoes, accessories and a bag. Then, I snap a photo of the outfit to refer to when on vacation. It’s a pleasurable experience to pack.

Ariel Rezek, the founder and designer of Rezek Studios

How did you get into the fashion industry. What attracted you to designing?

Fashion has been my passion since childhood. I was inspired to design clothes I liked to wear, and I went from there. Along the way, I learned how to be a designer as well as how to run a business.

What do you think the fashion and travel industries can be connected in some way?

I pack what I need for each destination when I travel. I’m more fun and sexy if it’s Miami. If it’s New York, then I’ll be a more stylish and sophisticated girl. They are constantly giving me information about my personal style and creative process.

A place that allows me to take chances with my clothes is always inspiring. I can still pack all the vintage pieces in my closet, even in Palm Springs, CA. My style influences what I make. Through my collections, I hope others will be inspired to travel with me in style.

We love that your pieces are photogenic. Do you have any tips for being photo-ready while on the road?

Our customers often purchase our clothing to attend a special occasion, such as a birthday party or holiday party. To feel the most confident when I travel, I always make sure my nails are clean and my hair is fresh. When you’re having fun and on vacation, it shows in your photos.

What, as a designer, is it worth taking (and wearing) on a vacation?

I often make purchases based on where and when I’m going to be attending a special dinner or event. There are also more versatile pieces, such as our Star corset. It can be worn with our Hustle pants or a skirt. Or you can just wear it as a fun, casual look.

Do you think there are any staples that are essential for every trip? What and why are they essential?

It is important to have pieces that can be worn from morning to night. The Hustle pants are an excellent example. They look great paired with a cozy sweater of a similar color in winter. They look great with a Sky-Blue sweater from The Frankie Shop, as well as my lucite Zara heels. It was the perfect outfit for traveling.

Dry shampoo is one of my beauty essentials. Ouai is a great choice.

Is there anything you recommend wearing when flying, other than packing for your destination? Is there a travel uniform that you swear by?

It is always comfortable. I own some very chic, colorful sweatsuits by American Vintage that I bought in London last summer. I wear them with clogs or a trucker hat. Socks are the most important thing you can wear in flight. It is important to keep warm.

Are there any packing or travel tips that you can recommend to readers for the holiday season?

A great suitcase is a must-have for the holiday season. A Rimowa trunk has just been purchased. It fits everything. Check with your hotel to find out if they offer a steamer. If not, my travel-sized steamer is a must-have for any photogenic trip.
