To find the right phone for you, we take a deep look at Samsung’s latest smartphone production.
Samsung and Apple are locked in an endless smartphone war. Samsung might not be winning on all fronts, but at least when it comes to value for money. Samsung, unlike its Californian competitor, has flood the market with a variety of Galaxy phone models, ranging from the extremely-low Galaxy A13 to the more expensive Galaxy S22 Ultra.
There are many factors that will influence the choice of Samsung phone. While budget is the most important factor in this decision, you will also need to consider other factors like screen size, battery life, and camera characteristics. Take a look at our guide to help you make an informed decision before you bring your next Samsung phone to the shop.
Samsung’s best smartphones
Samsung started the new year off with the Galaxy S22 Ultra. There are not many changes to the Galaxy S21 Ultra last year, but the most significant addition is the Samsung S Pen stylus. This stylus was borrowed from the Note range while it’s on vacation.
There is no better smartphone for you if you are looking for a flagship phone. Samsung’s new all-singing, all-dancing smartphone is now more beautiful than ever. It features a fancy new camera housing with a Burgundy colour and a brand new camera lens. The stunning 6.2in 120Hz screen returns (ideal for drawing with the S Pen), and there is a slight uptick in performance thanks to the Exynos 2200 chipset.
The S22 Ultra’s camera offerings, especially the enhanced zoom capabilities, were what impressed us the most. The S22 Ultra has a pair 3x and 10x Telephoto lenses, as well as a primary sensor of 108MP. Our tests showed that the pictures captured every detail in the images with stunning colours.
There are cheaper smartphones available in 2022 than this, but this is the best option if you want to experience all that Android (and not just Samsung) has.
The Galaxy A21s is a great option for budget-conscious people who don’t want to spend a lot on flagship-sized Samsungs. Although it’s not the most flashy smartphone on the market the Galaxy A21s is an amazing smartphone that offers a lot of features and very low prices.
Samsung managed to include five cameras, which is quite generous for the price. The camera is a huge 48MP, which is an excellent feature, and also includes a macro, wide angle, depth-sensing, and macro lens. Samsung is a master at making a high-priced smartphone. The Galaxy A21s with Android 10 and a beautiful screen and sleek design, certainly surpasses our expectations.
Samsung’s premium foldable is one of the best we have ever seen. All the kinks are now fixed and the Galaxy Z Fold 4 represents the culmination of all previous improvements. It features an IPX8 rating for water resistance, a hard-wearing design and significant performance gains.
The Galaxy Z Fold 4 is the most expensive smartphone available at the moment. It’s well worth the price if you have the means to pay it. We tested it with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Plus Generation 1 mobile chipset, which provided the greatest gen-on gen gaming performance improvement in many years. This is the phone for you if you want a phone that inspires friends to «ooh» and «aah» but also has a lot of money in your pocket.
You don’t have the budget for a Samsung flagship, but you do not want to compromise on quality. The S21 FE has everything you need: high-end specs, a long list flagship-worthy features, and a lower price.
The S21 FE, or Fan Edition, is a cheaper version of the S21, but it offers a similar speedy performance, great rear cameras and a stunning display. It’s also a better-value smartphone than the S21. The Galaxy S21 FE, if you aren’t impressed by the flagships this year, is the best alternative.
You can also choose the Galaxy A53 5G mid-range if you don’t have the funds to buy a new Samsung phone but aren’t prepared to compromise on features.
The Galaxy A53 5G has a large, accurate 6.5in screen with triple cameras array. It also offers solid performance. The battery life is amazing, with the Galaxy A535G lasting more than 22 hours during our tests. Although the Display isn’t HDR-compliant, it is still a minor issue when you consider how much stuff you get for so little.
The Z Flip 4 5G, which is featured above, is another great folding flagship. The Flip 4 5G offers the same high-level features as the Fold, including IPX8-rated waterproofing and a sturdy design. It also has a 120Hz refresh rate screen. This makes it a much more affordable option. The Flip 4 5G offers a lot more value than the original, with Flip-friendly improvements such as a larger battery, improved performance, and a few UI enhancements.
Samsung flagships don’t have to be expensive. The Galaxy S21 last year is a great choice if you are looking for a top-end smartphone but don’t have the S22-sized cash to buy one. The display is great, it’s one of our fastest phones and the triple cameras hold up against the iPhone 13.
This recommendation is only applicable if you are willing to buy a refurbished model. If this is not a problem, you will be rewarded with an excellent phone at a remarkable price.
