We suggest that you start looking for the best winter hair colours after you have sorted out holiday gifts for everyone. It’s almost 2023, so why not start the year off with a new color?

Natural browns and blondes that are low-maintenance are definitely in fashion. However, this doesn’t mean that hair color has to be boring. In fact, there are many unexpected trends and hair colors. After the postpandemic DIY revolution, candy colors like pink, blue, and all things copper are still in fashion, as Zendaya and Lily James have proven.

Top hairstylists were asked to share their top winter hairstyles, no matter what your hair texture or style. In case you aren’t ready to go to the salon, we also included some DIY options. Take a look at the top winter hair colors in 2022 and be sure to check a picture.

Auburn Balayage

«Balayage is back, especially in red- and auburn tones. These looks are very popular, as they change the norm for heavy balayaged hair,» Lorena Valdes, Chicago’s Maxine Salon hair colorist says. It can be very dark at the roots and extremely blonde at the ends. But that takes time. People want simplicity and to look like Rihanna.

Rich Brunette

Leland Joel Olson is the style and color master at Kevin Murphy. He predicts that deep brunette looks are going to be big this season. He says that a rich, luxurious brunette gives your hair a beautiful shine and adds texture to the color.

Copper Tones

Copper and red tones are more popular than ever. Jamie Wiley, celebrity hairdresser, says copper is having its moment. She notes that many of her clients are choosing to tone down and try true copper. This trend is already evident, as copper has been seen all over the red carpet.

Chai Blonde

Chai blonde is a great choice if you like to keep your hair light during winter. Olson says that blondes tend to become lighter and more drier as they are exposed to more sunlight in the summer. This is why it’s so popular to go for a dark, golden blonde with caramel and honey hints in winter. He says, «It will bring life back to your sun bleached tresses.»

Warm chocolate

Are you looking for something darker? Warm chocolate tones are best, such as Selena Gomez’s current shade. Wiley says that her dark chocolate tone makes her look more honeyed and is great for winter. She also said that warm tones reflect more sunlight. Warmth will improve the hair’s reflection and shine and give the skin a glow.

Gilded brown

Wiley predicts a rise in more dimensional and gold-colored browns this winter. She says Emmy Rossum is a deep, golden brunette everyone will want. She says that it is important to take care of your hair at home when you are changing to warm tones or adding them to your existing color. Use Pureology Hydrate Shampoo & Conditioner to maintain your natural color. This shampoo moisturizes hair during winter and preserves color thanks to its sulfate free formula.

Cozy Blonde

We’ll see lots of cozy blondes and brondes this winter, according to Jennifer Korab, hairstylist and owner of Renaissance Salon. She says that although the cozy-blonde trend tends to be darker, clients who love bright platinum hair are still interested in this color. This look is extremely low-maintenance.

Strawberry Shades

Also, strawberry shades are very popular. Wiley states that blonde clients are switching to strawberry blonde. Korab, her salon’s owner, says the same. «Clients want this color to warm up for winter.» Warm rich red tones are available in a variety of colors. They can be subtle or bold and bright.

Icy Blue

Pastel colors are a good option for those who have been platinum for some time. Baby pink was a hot color this spring, but Clairol partner and celebrity colorist Jeremy Tardo recommends a lighter blue or teal for winter. Tardo states that Mermaids have a great vibe throughout the year. This is a great way for you to experiment with your hair color. We all want to have more fun!

Golden Platinum

Although it is warmer than the icy grey shades of platinum that were popularized a few years back, this modern version is still stunningright. Bianca Hillier, celebrity colorist, says that platinum perfection is difficult to achieve. «Buttery blonde tones reflect the most shine. It’s fun to use a golden platinum tone because it doesn’t contrast with your skin’s warmth like silver. She says that all colors fade with time so it is important to use a purple-toned shampoo. For extra durability between salon visits, try the Olaplex No 4p Blonde Enhancer Toning Shampoo.
