Another iPhone update is available. Apple’s iOS 16.1 update was released a month ago. It includes many tweaks and new features that are compatible with iPhones (and iPads running iPadOS 16). We can help you download iOS 16 if you don’t have it yet.
This is what’s new with iOS 16.1 and the purpose of each feature.
It can be difficult to share photos with friends after a night out. Using iCloud Shared Photos Library, you can share photos and videos easily with up to five people.
Anyone with access to the Shared Photos Library can edit, delete and add content. Upload photos directly from your iPhone to the library. You can also add photos to it when you’re physically present with other users who have access.
You can’t join two shared libraries at the same time. If you move photos from your personal collection to the shared library they won’t be duplicated. They can only be found in that shared library.
Live Activities gives the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max their Dynamic Island and lock screens a boost. Your Dynamic Island and lock screen will display notifications from third party apps, such as sports games or flights with Live Activities.
Apple Fitness Plus is now available on iOS 16.1. An iPhone 8 or later can be used to track and set goals for your fitness.
The battery percentage can now be displayed in the icon for the iPhone XR and XR. The font used to display the battery icon has been slightly larger, making it easier for users to read.
Apple made it easier to change your wallpaper in iOS 16.1. You can access Settings > The Wallpaper menu now offers the ability to add a wallpaper. You can also browse existing wallpapers. You can now edit your wallpaper from your lock screen.
Editing a screenshot with the editing menu displays the delete, save, and copy options across the top of the screen in a smaller, more user-friendly menu. These options used to be at the bottom screen of your iPhone.
With Messages or WhatsApp, you can securely share your car, hotel room and other Wallet App information. Apple Card customers can increase their Daily Cash by placing their savings in a high-yield savings bank. If you wish, you can also delete the Wallet application from your iPhone.
Matter, the smart home connectivity standard for smart homes, is now available. This means that you can now control smart devices such as Alexa or Google Assistant directly from your iPhone.
The Battery section of Settings now has a Clean Energy Charging toggle. This setting can help you reduce your carbon footprint while charging your iPhone. Clean Energy Charging is enabled so that your iPhone will only charge when there is lower carbon emission electricity. This setting appears to be turned on by default. However, you can change it by going to Settings > Battery > Battery Health & Charging and tapping on the toggle next to Clean Energy Charge.
Your reader controls will be automatically hidden if you are reading books on an iPhone.
Apple also fixed a few bugs. These fixes include deleted messages appearing in Messages and Dynamic Island content not showing up when Reachability is used. Also, CarPlay will not connect to a VPN app.
