You are not the only one wondering what hair botox is. This treatment is making waves in the haircare industry, and with good reason.

We’ve all been there. A frizz crisis can cause us to reach for the best hair straighteners to manage our unruly hair. This isn’t always the best solution for long-term. Even the best hair products won’t be able to save brittle and dry hair. Treating locks with moisture and nutrients can make a big difference. Hair botox is the latest treatment for hair care. It has amazing, transformative results.

Michael Van Clarke, a well-known hairdresser, has introduced hair botox treatments to his salon’s repertoire. We talked to him to learn everything we need to know.

WHAT IS HAIR BOX?

Baby botox and other tweakments are not for the faint-hearted. Van Clarke says that botox does have a nice ring. But this tag is only linking the key effects of fillers and botox — the plumping, smoothing, and then applying that understanding of hair.

Van Clarke explained that the treatment is not about «neutralizing muscles, as there aren’t any in hair.» The ingredients do not contain hypodermic needles or Botulinum Toxin [botox]. It’s all about the condition. It’s a combination of a deep-conditioning treatment with a keratin blow dryer. You’ll love it! Hair botox may be right for you if you want to smoothen and strengthen your hair.

What is the PROCESS?

You apply hair botox to your wet hair just like you would a hair mask. The Michael Van Clarke salon uses a mix of nutrients to apply to the hair, and then seal it with a straightener. Finally, the hair is given a bouncy blow-dry. Van Clarke says that the treatment can be used in many ways. It can give your hair a smoother texture, keep it hydrated and add volume to your hair. Or just smooth out those annoying fringes or hairlines.

Hair botox is not only good for texture, but it can also be beneficial to your hair’s long-term health. It will mostly improve frizz, damage and split ends. Van Clarke says that hair botox can be particularly helpful in summer and before holidays, when it is difficult to rely solely on a blow-dry.

Is HAIR BOTOX GOOD for hair?

Van Clarke tells us that hair botox has a positive effect on hair. Healthy hair is basically 97% protein and 33% water. Hair botox’s purpose is to fill in any cracks or gaps in the porous protein structure of hair and increase moisture. You can keep your hair healthy longer if the hair shaft is more complete.

Why is this necessary? The hair shaft is broken down by heat styling, coloring, and other aggressive products. Van Clarke says that the hollowed out protein structure can’t hold on to as many water molecules so it becomes brittle and unstable and then breaks down faster. It loses its gloss and flexibility and becomes thinner and less responsive. This can be seen by comparing the tips to the roots. Another reason to use heat-free styling products is to curl your hair with a dressing gown or any other method that doesn’t require a hair dryer.

HAIR BOTOX VS KERATIN TREATMENTS

You may have experienced a Brazilian bow-dry and wondered what hair botox is like. Both promises to smooth frizzy hair. However, at-home keratin treatments can chemically alter hair texture while those in the salon (aka Brazilian blow dry) use formaldehyde to straighten hair. Van Clarke explained that hair botox is a combination of nutrients without formaldehyde.

The treatment does not contain any harsh chemicals as it is intended to condition and strengthen the hair. Hair botox typically costs between $150 and $300. This is slightly less expensive than traditional keratin treatments which usually start at the top.

HOW LONG DOES HAIR BOTOX LAST?

It all depends on the hair botox treatment that you are using. Van Clarke explained that some hair botox treatments are temporary and will not last until your next wash. Others are more permanent with the ingredients being ironed or dried. Van Clarke promises that treatment lasts between 2 and 3 months if you choose the latter.
