For the past two years I have been a regular press-on nail user. I have learned that my hands can be quite rough. My nails are constantly in trouble due to my daily typing and the fact that I live in New York City, which means I haven’t used a dishwasher for almost 10 years. They are also subject to the three boxing classes that I take three times per week.
It might be a question of why I don’t choose to have short nails if I spend so much time wrapping my hands around a heavy bag and punching it. Maybe I should go back to the square-shaped black gel manicures that I wore between 2014-2018. To that, I say no. Style is something I should have! I have the right to wear eye-catching designs and acrylic sets that are long and elegant.
To be honest, I thought I would have to learn to accept the fact that I could apply a gorgeous set of nails one day, and then have half my thumbnails snap in the next. Static Nails’ press-ons proved to be a huge help.
Static Nails Reusable, Pop-On Manicures range in price from $20-24 per set. They come in many colors, each in different shapes and lengths, as well as sets that feature the minimalist, classy nail art you see all over Pinterest. You get 24 nails in each pack, with varying sizes so that you can find the right size for your nails. The glue is easy to use and the nails are quick to dry. If you prefer brush-on glue ($8), you can also purchase it separately.
These colors would be something I would choose in a nail salon. Do you feel that sometimes, press-ons come with styles or colors you wouldn’t choose? The elaborate sets I love are great, but the cheap ones that you can buy at drugstores just don’t work for me. Static Nails has over 200 color options, effects and prints, making it easy to find the right style for you. Alexis Irene, founder of Static Nails, explains that the brand follows a rigorous design process. They review trends and colors and create collections around those gaps. This results in styles that reflect customer needs.
Static Nails’ press-ons are very strong. My first set lasted for a week and a bit with no lifting or breakage. This was despite multiple boxing classes, laundry day, and other activities that could have led to me losing a few nails. Irene claims that this is because of the way these nails are made. She explained that she uses high-quality materials with custom molds to create nails that look natural and are stronger than salon acrylics.
Static Nails’ press-ons were superglue to my nails. However, this doesn’t necessarily mean they aren’t damaging. Irene explained that the glue bonds like an acrylic but «essentially dissolves away from the nail» and leaves no residue or damage. These nails were easy to remove with warm water and a cuticle instrument. The glue started to dissolve after about a week. The press-ons felt great and my natural nails looked as good as new. A set of press-on nails has everything you need.
My favorite boxing coach is always a proponent of the balance between flow and fight. The duality of these two energies. That to me looks like wrapping my extra-long acrylics around the ring and not needing to hold on.
