As winter is here and the temperature drops, it’s easy to imagine what next season holds. It’s never a bad idea to be ahead of the game, and there is no better way to enjoy the dark months than by planning your 2023 wardrobe.
Fashion month was a success. From fringing and cutouts at Victoria Beckham’s Paris Fashion Week debut, to playful check suits at Chanel and LBDs at Chanel we just want to get on board.
Valentino’s oversized, slouchy blazers were in fashion. Chanel even opted for relaxed-fit versions its boucle jackets in vibrant pinks. Victoria Beckham has simple, tailored blazers that double as mini dresses for those who love sharp tailoring.
Mini dresses are back, and the SS23 iterations of mini dresses are all about texture. Givenchy’s pearl embellishments and Chanel’s belted LBDs were a touch of opulence. Versace’s shiny purple chromes were flashy in the best way.
Many designers favored lace-adorned maxis with cool cutwork. Burberry’s London Fashion Week show featured baby blue lingerie-inspired pieces, while Versace and Dior exuded gothic glamour.
Versace’s buttery leather fringing felt very ‘cool-girl-meets-cowboy’, whereas Victoria Beckham’s take spotlighted ra-ra minis and ultra-kinetic hems.
The bombshell split we’re used to seeing on the red-carpet is now available in SS23. The trend is being set by Givenchy’s silky slip dresses, Dries Van Noten’s vibrant florals, and Prada’s glossy midis.
Designers made denim sexy in SS23 — who would have thought? Asymmetrical fitted shirts were paired with soft brown co.ords from A.W.A.K.E. Bella Hadid’s Givenchy buckle bra exuded a utilitarian sultriness, while her hippyish look was matched with asymmetric fitted shirts at A.W.A.K.E.
Cut-outs are a hot trend, and British pioneer Poster Girl is leading the charge with its geometrically designed designs. Next season, we are looking forward to larger cut-outs. We can look at A.W.A.K.E, Valentino, and Andreadamo for inspiration.
A bright cerulean is a great contrast to the Barbiecore pink trend. It’s a bit more sophisticated and can be worn all year round. Particularly, I am interested in a Christopher John Rogers overcoat — it is so chic.
Everyone has a different opinion about animal print. It’s very much marmite within the fashionsphere. Laura says that zebra print is a favorite of hers, especially when it’s used for accessories. I struggle to understand a leopard look. Despite this, I may be seen in an Alessandra Rich twinset in the summer.
The glam utility trend for peak Y2K is a nostalgic mix of satin jumpsuits and sheer cargo pants, as well as low-slung belted shorts (you can thank Miu Miu), that have been elevated to a dress-up moment. Laura suggests that you slip on a boilersuit, zip to the navel, and then add killer heels.
Designers have been hit hard by the news of Disney’s live-action version of The Little Mermaid. You can expect striking scale-inspired embellishment, fishtail silhouettes, and shimmery fabrics that glide across every curve. For your fix, look no further than 16 Arlington, Valentino or Elie Saab.
It’s all about sheer and sultry fabrics right now. But with a feminine twist. Think Valentino’s playful ruffles, Chanel’s cool-girl chevrons and Nensi Dojaka’s slinky maxis.
The SS23 runways featured Tartan, a sign that grunge is back. You can play it cool in a Bottega Veneta shirt, or look out for pieces with botanical embroidery a La Maison Dior.
SS23 will feature a lot of costume-inspired details, including balloon silhouettes and puff-sleeves. Corsetry and capes are also high on the agenda. Regencycore girls, you can eat your heart’s content.
You can channel your inner Grace Jones by choosing a striking hooded dress, following the lead of Saint Laurent, Alaia, and Valentino.
Party classics like sequins and feathers are still very popular, but the runways show that they are also spring/summer-appropriate. Use the post-Christmas sales to start your 2023 year with a bang.
Silver will be the dominant color next season as lustrous metallics take a turn. For inspiration, check out Chanel’s cami dresses and Valentino’s maxi outerwear.
