You probably expect your TV to turn off and the picture will disappear. Newer TVs can show more. When you aren’t actually watching television, these big screens can show art, photography, and even a weather report.

Samsung’s The Frame is the most well-known of these TVs, and has been around for quite some time. Amazon’s Fire TV Omni QLED is the newest, and it debuted in fall 2022. There are some similarities between them, such as access to thousands museum-quality art pieces, but there are also some differences. Let’s get started.

Amazon Fire TV Omni QLED (65 inches)

The Omni QLED models of the Fire TV Omni include QLED screens and other image quality enhancements. They have sensors that detect when you are in the room and activate artwork, widgets, or other content. You’re not the only one who finds this creepy.

Samsung The Frame (65-inch)

The original «TV as Art», Samsung’s The Frame can look like a painting, rather than a television. There are many frame options. The new 2022 version features a screen that reduces reflections to make it more like a canvas.

The Frame: Custom frames are available in a variety of sizes and prices

The Frame is more expensive than the Omni QLED in both of their sizes. Samsung’s TV comes in many sizes, including 32-inch and 85-inch.

  1. Amazon Fire TV Omni QLED TV is available in two sizes: 65 inch ($800) or 75 inch ($1,100).
  2. The Samsung The Frame QLED TV is available in seven sizes: 32-inch ($600), 43-inch ($1,000), 50 inch ($1,300), 55 inches ($1,500), 65 inches ($2,000), 75-inch ($2,600), 85-inch ($3,500).
Prices can fluctuate but you get the idea.

Samsung offers custom frames for The Frame starting at $100

Art is free to use?

You can display digital photos and other files on both TVs. There are also ambient modes that display clocks and mood screens. A dedicated art mode, which displays paintings and other fine art from some major museums, is the main feature of each TV.

  1. Amazon Fire TV Omni has 1,500 pieces in its art collection. It’s also free.
  2. The Samsung The Frame QLED TV boasts 2,000 pieces of art from the Samsung Art Store. The subscription costs $5 per Month.

Quality of pictures and other features

While most people don’t buy a TV like The Frame because of its image quality, it is worth noting some similarities and differences. Both TVs feature smart TV, which is Samsung’s system on The Frame and Fire TV for the Omni. They also use QLED technology to improve brightness and color. While we have not reviewed the TVs, it is impossible to compare their image quality. Here are some key differences.

  1. Fire TV Omni’s full-array local dimming allows for independent control of brightness in different areas. This feature can improve contrast and HDR. Local dimming is not available on the Frame.
  2. The Frame features a matte anti-reflective, anti-reflective display that is designed to reduce reflections. In past reviews, Samsung screens have performed well in this regard.
  3. Fire TV Omni features a presence sensor to detect when you are in the room and turns on automatically. The TV Omni also features a far-field microphone that allows you to voice command the TV hands-free.
  4. The Frame also has a motion sensor that turns the TV off when you are away, but this only works in Art mode.

You can mount the Frame from your wall with the included slim-fit wall mounting. You can mount the Omni QLED to the wall, but this mount will need to be purchased separately.

The Frame by Samsung is now available, and Amazon’s Fire TV Omni will ship in October.
