Did you know there are two main types of sunscreen? These are both chemical and mineral sunscreens. Both have the same purpose: to protect you from UV rays. However, they function in a different way.

We will discuss the differences between chemical and mineral sunscreens and help you choose which one is best for your skin.

What is Mineral Sunscreen?

Mineral sunscreen is the main type of sunscreen that has minerals as active ingredients. Physical sunscreen can also be called mineral sunscreen. It protects your skin and acts as a physical barrier to UV rays. This sunscreen is not absorbed into the skin and can cause skin pores to become clogged.

What is Chemical Sunscreen?

Chemical sunscreens, as the name implies, contain many chemical ingredients. Chemical structure is what controls the function of chemical sunscreens. It is composed of aromatic compounds and carbonyl group components. It converts the harmful rays to heat.

Due to chemical ingredients in sunscreens, they can cause skin irritations. It may affect your skin after long term usage. The Food & Drug Administration states that some ingredients in chemical sunscreens can cause skin irritations. Administration states that chemical sunscreens contain some ingredients that are unsafe.

How to choose which one is for you?

There are many factors that will determine the right sunscreen for you, including your skin type.

1. Dry skin

Proper hydration is the first priority for those with dry skin. You should choose a sunscreen that offers both protection against UV rays and moisturizing properties. Mineral sunscreen is your best choice. You should look for a mineral sunscreen lotion with an SPF of between 30 and 50.

2. Normal skin

Normal skin doesn’t need to be worried about buying skincare products. People with normal skin can choose any type of sunscreen that they like, regardless of gender. Experts recommend that you choose mineral sunscreens to avoid skin irritation or allergic reactions.

3. Sensitive skin

For sensitive skin, mineral sunscreen is recommended. It is anti-irritant because it contains titanium dioxide and zinc oxide. This ensures safety for those with sensitive skin. Zinc oxide acts as a UVA blocker, protecting you from the sun’s harmful rays. You may experience skin irritation if you use a chemical sunscreen that includes parabens and oxybenzone.

4. Oily skin

The skin becomes oily when the sebaceous glands produce too much sebum oil. Even after washing your skin with a cleanser or face wash, you will notice a greasy appearance to the skin. A lightweight, non-greasy sunscreen should perfectly blend with your skin. People with oily skin should use a non-greasy, chemical sunscreen that is easily absorbed into the skin. It does not clog pores.

5. Acne-Prone Skin

Acne-prone skin is often very frustrating. Selecting the right skincare products can be difficult for those with acne-prone skin. Do your research if you have sensitive skin. You should consider buying mineral sunscreen over chemical ones. Make sure that your sunscreen is not prone to acne.

Wrapping up

When you are out in the sun, sunscreen is essential. It is important to choose the right sunscreen for your skin. You should choose the right sunscreen for you. Mineral sunscreen is recommended for people with normal or dry skin. Chemical sunscreen can be used for those with oily skin. You can combine both types of sunscreen to get the best results.
