Of course, when it comes to trends, there’s nothing that’s ever entirely original—inspiration is constantly drawn from the past. We’ve seen «dated» trends transformed into something new as runway collections tap nostalgia more often.

Furry accessories are a great way to show that. As humans have worn fur accessories for centuries, their popularity has fluctuated. They gained popularity in fashion in 1960s thanks to Karl Lagerfield, who coined the term «funfur» while working at Fendi. Faux fur was made possible by fabric production innovations in the 1990s, which allowed fur to be more affordable and animal-friendly. This led to the creation of many furry accessories that have remained a hallmark of the decade.

Furry accessories are still a popular fashion accessory, as seen in the fall/winter 2022 collections. We saw designers take this accessory from Kim Jones at Fendi, to Donatella Versace, and reinvent it in a way that can make even the most forward-thinking fashionphiles feel nostalgic.

Furry bags! These furry bags are still around. You may remember those? We saw modern silhouettes, bright colors and thoughtful materials, which is a departure from the 1990s version of this style. Fendi, Jacquemus, Off-White, and Loewe all had fuzzy bags, making them a fun accessory to have this fall.

Someone who said fur shoes couldn’t be functional probably never saw F/W 22 runways.
