This is rare in today’s social media age. If you follow the right people you can spot trends from a mile away. It’s possible for a fad or two to sneak up on your attention. The signs usually are obvious. Overalls took a while for the «frumpy» onesies that were once fashionable to become one of the most desired wardrobe items of the fall to be rediscovered. They’re now everywhere.
The pair I first saw was during Oslo Runway, when Annabel Rosendahl, an influencer, showed it to me. The Norwegian made the utilitarian silhouette look surprisingly elevated by pairing it with an oversize tee and Saint Laurent’s beloved Le 5a7 shoulder bag. Although my attention was drawn to the outfit, it wasn’t enough to make it a trend. I moved on with my day. The silhouette was on the runway at New York Fashion Week. It was first at Brandon Maxwell, then at Coach and Tibi. It was too late to catch up with the trend by the end of fashion month. It was already there, on everyone, from Elsa Hosk the model to Camille Charriere, a French influencer and recent Mango collaborator.
I understand if you are as confused as I was. It’s not too late for you to take advantage of the fastest-rising fashion trend of the season. Scroll down to see the top overalls available right now.
This look is very relevant right now, since it has been around 70 degrees every day in NYC. Don’t worry if the heat wave ends. You can swap the tube top out for a warm knit or the thong sandals in favor of chunky boots.
