7 Fall Shoe Trends to Kick-Off the Season

As summer winds down, it’s time for us to put away our bulky flip-flops. We need to replace them with new shoes. Every season brings new trends and fall 2022 does not disappoint. Mary Janes and ballet flats, shoes from our youth, are making a comeback. Comfort-focused and practical shoes such as track sneakers are becoming increasingly popular with celebrities like Kendall Jenner and Kate Moss. We can’t seem to get enough of some shoe trends like chunky platform heels and western-style boots.

The Comeback Clogs

Although whispers began to brew last autumn about the return to the clogs, this fall the Dutch-inspired shoes will be making a comeback. Kendall Jenner and Rihanna have been seen wearing the shoes in recent times. With the success of the Birkenstock Boston Clogs on TikTok it’s not surprising that this silhouette is enjoying a moment.

Ballet Flats Return

The balletcore aesthetic was the main focus of this year’s show, and it doesn’t look like the style will be slowing down. Expect to see ballet flats returning this fall, but in a surprising way. Flats made with satiny fabrics and elastic straps, which pay homage to the classic ballerina shoe, are being taken seriously by brands. We expect to see ballet flats with more quirky touches such as square toes or exaggerated bows.

Mary Janes for Grown-ups

If you’re anything like me, the word Mary Janes can send chills down your spine and bring back memories of school dress codes. This style will be a huge hit for fall 2022. But, it is getting a major-kid upgrade. We saw everything, from buckles to chunky platforms, on the F/W 22 runway. So we will accept this new style in our fall wardrobes.

The Track

Although it seemed impossible, this fall could see the end of chunky shoes. Bella Hadid has declared the Adidas Samba shoes the It-girl footwear for 2022, and she has worn the sneakers multiple times. Emma Chamberlain and others have followed her lead. We won’t let our platform sneakers go yet, but it’s refreshing and comfort-focused to see new, on-trend shoes.

Boots with a high knee

Although knee-high boots are not a new trend, we believe they will be more in fashion than short ankle booties. These boots are often paired with block heels. However, brands such as Khaite have also adopted the riding boot style to their fall collections.

Chunky Platform Heels

The *slightly frightening* trend of chunky platform heels this fall is Valentino’s and Versace’s fall 2022 collections. This style is inspired by the 70s and the shoes are popular in bold, striking colors like chartreuse and fuchsia.

Western-Inspired Boots

Summer 2022 was all cowboy boots. It looks like this trend won’t be going away in the fall. We saw the boots worn with shorts and sundresses during the warmer months. But, as the weather turns, we will be styling the shoes with midi dresses or loose-fitting jeans.
