Lopez Affleck talked to Zane Lowe, famed celebrity interviewer, about their 20-year-long journey back to one another in a promo interview for her new album, This Is Me…Now.

After 20 years, I revisited This Is Me…

Twenty-years ago, I fell in love and married the love of my lifetime. I was working on an album called This Is Me…Then. It was about capturing that moment in the present. The most incredible, amazing, and unbelievable thing has occurred. We are here because this moment is so special, it deserves to be captured.

Lopez Affleck said, «This Is Me…Then really captured that moment in my life when I fell in love the love of all my life. The record has it all. It was all happening in my head and I didn’t know what it was. It was just day to day, going from the set into the recording studio, doing the things, falling in love, and him coming into the studio writing ‘I am glad’. He helped me to tweak the lyrics. Each song we wrote together, me writing «Dear Ben», it was such an amazing moment in time to capture.»

When Affleck fell in love for the first time with you

I believe that we became good friends as we worked together on the movie Gigli. We discovered that we were crazy for each other. After the movie, I was still thinking about him. Because I was just coming out of a long-term relationship, it meant that I had to manage my own business. It’s almost like you knew it. It was like you knew it for months. Because we were not allowed to do so, it wasn’t an immediate thing. It did grow over time, yes.

After falling in love again with Affleck

It was impossible. I was like, «You are right.» It was difficult. It was something I had to let go of in order to survive. It was a survival tactic.

On This is Me…Now

We captured me at the moment when I was reunited to the love of my lifetime and we decided that we would be forever together. The album’s main message is that love exists. This is real love. If you’re like me and have lost hope at times, don’t lose heart. True love is real and can last forever. It takes a lot of vulnerability to spread that message. Some parts of it scared me, but I couldn’t resist. It scares Ben, too. He says, «Oh, do you really want all this stuff?» And I reply, «I don’t know what else to do, baby.»
