We believe the best movies on HBO Max is a key reason it’s one the most popular streaming services. It takes me very little to search the site for five movies that would make a great movie night.
Yes, we update a roundup that includes all the top movies on HBO Max. The story is both a compilation based on what we, as a team, think and also on the long side. If you’re looking for great movies that you haven’t heard of, or one that is more personal, this list has you covered.
To create that list, I went to HBO Max’s movies section and looked at the genre lists. Because Studio Ghibli and DC are the most popular HBO Max movies, I decided to ignore them.
I then selected a selection of movies that I believe best exemplifies what I love about films. This batch contains one outstanding and moody drama, three great horror movies, and a documentary that is incredibly relevant.
Wes Anderson embraced all the characteristics he is most famous for in The French Dispatch and the results are excellent. The French Dispatch, a fictional magazine of high-brow status, is an anthology film that tells 3 stories.
Benicio Del Toro portrays a criminal who chooses fine art to escape prison. However, he falls in love with Lea Seydoux, a guard. Tilda Swinton narrates all of this in a fantastical way. Next, «Revisions to a Manifesto», finds Timothee Chalamet in the middle of student protests. It will almost take you back to France in May 1968. Jeffrey Wright narrates «The Private Dining Room of the Police Commissioner», a crime thriller starring Jeffrey Wright.
The French Dispatch features many of Anderson’s favorite characters, such as Bill Murray, Anjelica Hudson, Owen Wilson and Saoirse Ronan. Anderson at his best is not for everyone, but it will be a delight to others.
As many of us have learned, isolation can be very distressing. Moon is the story of Sam Bell (Sam Rockwell), a man who has just completed a three-year-long solitary shift on the far side. Sam then discovers some things he didn’t know about his shift.
The film’s directors Duncan Jones and Rockwell were both praised for their contributions. It is about reality and emotion. Although Moon is a minimalist film at times, I wonder if I’m exaggerating. But Rockwell’s performance makes it one of my favorite movies on optical media.
Gloria is having a hard time. Her partying habits got so bad, her boyfriend broke up with Gloria. She was kicked out of her apartment in New York. It seems that she is connected to a Kaiju monster in South Korea.
Her childhood friend, is helping her to make many new discoveries about herself back in Mainhead, New Hampshire. Then things get even more dramatic and interesting as Gloria’s friendship with Oscar is tested by all the above combustible elements. Colossal, a funny, modern fairy tale that is driven to success by the strong performances of Hathaway, Sudeikis and other actors, is one of those movies that you’ll be amazed more people don’t know about.
Horror movies are known for making us think «oh no, don’t go in there! What are you thinking?» Barbarian is a master at this, making the audience wonder, «Wait, what happened to that movie I just watched?» The more I don’t say about this twist, the better.
Barbarian’s story begins with Tess (Georgina Camp) arriving at Barbarian’s Airbnb on the wrong side in a poor neighborhood only to discover that Keith (Bill Skarsgard), is already there. Tess, who is apparently on the wrong side for double-booked accommodation, decides to enter the house. Tess then makes a series if discoveries that will make your eyes widen as she tries to survive.
One of the most heated debates in America is over abortion rights. News media often portrays the most angry people on both sides of the argument. Janes is a documentary about women who helped other women before legal abortion became possible. It does something else.
The Janes is a place that presents women who have to have abortions and women who help others get them as normal, everyday people. The Janes women are soft-spoken, funny, and share their horror stories with the rest of the world.
